The little things that you don’t think of are the ones that will get you busted every time.

It’s the little things like toothpaste and your hair. The slightest odor is picked up and trapped by your hair. Hair is like an odor sponge. You must avoid areas that will get odors in your hair. For instance if you stop at the store to grab a soda before you hit the woods, your hair just absorbed all the odors in the store including the lady behind the register with the perfume on. You are busted!

19 Point Buck Of A Lifetime

I’ve hunted since I was 11 years old; in search of the so called “big buck” that everyone wants to shoot. Well, I had no idea that when I got up on the first morning of the first shotgun season here in Illinois that I would shoot the buck of a lifetime.

I started my day of hunting by getting woke up by cabin owner Mike Curtis. Mike owns the old Curtis Christmas tree farm in Oakland. He yelled up the stairs for me to wake up. I got up and went outside on the deck to see what the temperature was like. It was about 45 and a perfectly quiet morning. I then got dressed in full camouflage, enough to keep me warm. I then went downstairs to the kitchen table to meet my grandpa and Mike to eat a donut for breakfast before we went out. We decided where we were all going to go.

Suburban Hunting

Finally, my first deer… after nearly 20 years of on and off hunting.

Our neighbor said he had a deer problem in his garden, grape vines, yard etc. and he asked me if I could help him out. He didn’t have to twist my arm.

Tuesday morning;
I got my bow and went out this AM just down the road and scared off a coyote first, then sneaked up on a doe. She discovered me at about 20 yards, I had great cover but she couldn’t figure out what I was. She was in range for a good shot. Oh I wish she had antlers! But a promise is a promise.
