Just one day before the hard-hunted “Ace of Spades” buck was harvested from the grounds of the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Oct. 17, another hunter — this one in Pawnee Co. — arrowed a 175-lb. buck with a high-scoring set of antlers. Archery hunter David Nance, Owasso, had seen his giant buck Oct. 13 and was presented with the right shot just a few days later when he harvested the buck from 20 yards with his bow. The buck had impressive antlers, but the body of the animal also caught his attention. “I was just really shocked over his size,” Nance said. Although unofficial until scored by a certified Boone and Crockett Club (B&C) big game measurer after a mandatory 60-day drying period, Nance’s buck has been “green scored” at a gross ... The Division of Fish and Wildlife would like to remind hunters and all other outdoor enthusiasts that this year’s November shotgun deer season will be Friday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Nov. 22. Of all the deer seasons Delaware has, this season draws the most interest from hunters. “It’s remarkable to believe that of Delaware’s five month deer season, nearly 50 percent of the overall annual deer harvest will occur during these eight days in mid-November,” said Game Mammal Biologist Joe Rogerson. “This year we anticipate the total deer season harvest will be approximately 13,500 deer, with nearly 6,000 of them harvested during the November shotgun deer season.” Hunters who are fortunate enough to harvest a deer ... CONCORD, N.H. - Opening Day for New Hampshire's regular firearms deer season takes place November 12, 2008. Most of the state's estimated 60,000 deer hunters go afield during this season, which runs through December 7, except in Wildlife Management Unit A in northern New Hampshire, where it closes November 30. The popular muzzleloader deer season starts on Saturday, November 1, except in WMU A, where it begins on November 3. Muzzleloader season runs through November 11. "For many New Englanders, the firearms deer season represents a traditional opportunity to get together with family and friends, enjoy our bountiful resources and put meat in the freezer before the onset of our long winter," said Kent Gustafson, the Deer Project Leader for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Jamie Farr of Junction City scores big on his buck that could rank in the top 10 of all time for typical bucks shot with archery gear in the state of Kansas. On October 22nd Farr watched as the buck approached and could tell he was a big whitetail but was yet unsure just how big the brute was. It didn't take long after he viewed the long antler tines that this was the whitetail buck that he was after. The hunt started out with the disastrous beginnings that many hunters encounter by scaring deer on the way to the stand that made quite a racket during their departure. As fate would have it Farr didn't lose his own determintation to make the best of the hunt and continued on ... Ben Spanjers says he didn't have time to get nervous when he bagged this extraordinary Minnesota monster buck with archery equipment on October 3. Spanjers, while viewing his trail cam photos, was surprised to find this big brute of a whitetail on film when he stragetically placed the cameras to overlook some large scrape areas. Unlike many big bucks, this monster whitetail was photographed during the daylight hours, proving to Spanjers that he indeed had a very good chance at bagging the deer. As Spanjers began to decypher the bucks patterns and movements he narrowed his options and began the hunt. Spanjers wouldn't have to wait long as his homework paid off in a big way when the buck appeared 70 yards out heading straight for him. As the buck ... Read more..
